How to Build an AI Agent Without Coding

Most "build an AI agent" tutorials start with an API key and a terminal. This one doesn't — because Waymaker's Agent Builder is a five-step wizard, not a coding project, and you can go from idea to a working, deployed agent without touching a line of code.

Here's exactly what that walkthrough looks like, with no glossed-over steps.

Step 1: Start from a template

You pick from six starting points — Personal Assistant, Content Creator, Research Analyst, Learning Tutor, Wellness Coach, or Business Advisor — filterable by category. A template just gives you a sensible starting personality and instruction set; you're not locked into it, and every field is yours to rewrite in the next step.

Step 2: Configure it in plain English

This is the whole "no code" part, and it's literally just form fields: a name for your agent, a personality description (how it should sound and behave), and instructions (what it should actually do). Two dropdowns let you set its response style — quick, balanced, or detailed — and its privacy level. That's it. No schema, no prompt engineering vocabulary required.

Step 3: See what it can connect to

This step shows you the tools your template is associated with. We'll be straightforward about where things actually stand: two of those are real, live connections today — your agent can search your own Brain (the notes and knowledge you've already built up in Waymaker) and check your Gameplan status, both scoped privately to your account. The rest of the categories shown here (Gmail, calendar, and similar) are informational for now — your agent can talk through how it would use them, but it can't take real actions in them yet. We'd rather tell you that plainly than let the screen imply more than it delivers.

Step 4: Preview how it talks

Before you deploy, you get a preview chat to get a feel for your agent's tone and how it responds to the instructions you wrote. Think of this step as proofreading your agent's personality, not as a live test of its deployed behavior — it's there to help you catch "that's not quite the voice I meant" before you ship it, not to simulate production traffic.

Step 5: Deploy it — for real

This is where "no code" turns into "actually live." Two deployment channels are real and enabled by default: a hosted web page for your agent, and a REST API endpoint if you want to wire it into something else you're building — Waymaker generates the API key for you, so there's nothing to provision yourself. Slack, Discord, a mobile app, and a browser extension are shown as options too, honestly marked "coming soon" — they're not wired up yet, and we're not going to pretend otherwise just to make the list look longer.

Once deployed, your agent runs on Claude, and every conversation is grounded in your real Waymaker context — the same accomplishment and progress data your Cofounder already knows about you.

What this is actually good for right now

An agent that knows your own notes and your current progress, with a name and personality you designed, reachable from a web page or an API you can build on top of. That's genuinely useful today — a research assistant that already knows what you've written down, a coach that already knows what you're working on, a specialist voice for one narrow job you'd rather delegate than keep doing by hand.

What it isn't yet: something that sends your emails, posts to your Slack, or takes actions in outside tools on its own. That's real, planned work, not a permanently missing piece — we'd rather ship the honest version now than the impressive-sounding version that quietly doesn't work.
