Inspiration
You don’t need to try harder. You need your next move.
Real people, real breakthroughs — and a few small practices for the days it feels stuck. Not a highlight reel. A reminder that “stuck” is usually just information about what to try next.
“12 publishers said no to Harry Potter. Bloomsbury’s chairman said yes after his 8-year-old daughter begged to read the rest.”
J.K. Rowling
“Fired for ‘lacking imagination.’ He sketched Mickey Mouse on the train ride home.”
Walt Disney
“5,126 prototypes failed. The 5,127th became one of the best-selling machines in the world.”
James Dyson
“Demoted for research everyone called a dead end. Twenty years later, a Nobel Prize.”
Katalin Karikó
“Locked himself away for 5 days considering quitting. Came back and won 6 more Olympic medals.”
Michael Phelps
“Rejected for a job at Facebook. Years later, sold Facebook a company for $19 billion.”
Jan Koum
“199th pick in the draft. Seven championships.”
Tom Brady
“Told television wouldn’t last, and that a woman had no future in it. Worked for 80 years.”
Betty White
Five small routines for stuck days
Short practices, not willpower.
Pulled from the pattern across these stories — not “never give up,” but “find the next move.”
The One More Try Rule
Before you close the tab or shelve the project: do it one more time. Stephen King’s wife pulled Carrie out of the trash. The gap between the story that ends and the one that doesn’t is often just one more attempt.
The Next-Move Journal
Two minutes, once a day. Not “how do I fix everything” — “what’s the smallest next move I can make today.” Write it down. Do that one thing.
The Failure Inventory
Once a week, write down what didn’t work and what it taught you. James Dyson built 5,126 of these before the one that worked. Treat “didn’t work” as data, not a verdict.
The One Sentence
Tell one person, honestly, what you’re building and why it matters to you. A single sentence of belief from someone else can carry you further than you’d expect — sometimes it has to come from outside before it lives inside.
A Different Move, Not a Harder Push
When you’re stuck, ask whether the answer is trying harder at the same thing — or trying a different thing entirely. Sometimes the fix isn’t more hustle. It’s a different definition of winning.
How Waymaker helps
Not another motivational feed.
A place that turns “stuck” into a next step.
Turn "stuck" into a next move
The Waymaker Method breaks an overwhelming goal into a real, sequenced path — compass, opportunity, validate, build, launch — with a Personal Gameplan and checkpoints so you always know the next concrete step, not a 40-item roadmap.
A cofounder that remembers your context
Cameron, your AI Cofounder, is grounded in your actual mission, notes, and progress — it tells you what to do next instead of asking you to re-explain everything every time.
Know your own patterns, not just your goals
The Builder DNA assessment maps how you actually think, build, and get stuck — and matches you with a real founder who faced the same pattern, so the lesson isn’t abstract.
Practice the hard moment before it counts
Roleplay Studio lets you rehearse a pitch, a hard conversation, or a sales call against an AI persona and get real feedback — before you’re standing in the actual room.
